Hi. About me…, who is this blogger, this Dr. Cindy? I am a daughter, sister, mom, friend, writer, the oldest of five siblings. I have adult boy/girl twins and grandchildren. I have been a writer since I picked up a pencil and learned the alphabet. The local newspaper published my first poem (age 7) about red-winged blackbirds, because a poem has to be about something. In the ’90s I authored two books on puberty, dating and relationships for parents and their pre-teens. During my work career, I worked in advertising and education. I early retired at age 62. I highly recommend it!
I am a middle income American who lives in Kansas, the smack dab center of the United States. It is one of those wonderful flyover states that people should actually visit. Google it. While I enjoy going to big cities for theatre, art, shopping, etc., I love nature and live in the quiet countryside with my horses and cats. My next neighbor is a stone’s throw across a big field. The sunrises and sunsets are consistently spectacular!
The life accomplishment I hold most dear other than writing is being a parent. Becoming a parent was the single most joyous and simultaneously difficult task I took on in this life. Though my twins are adults now, like most moms and dads, I am a parent for life. I continue to fiercely love, cherish, and worry about my twins and their families; I am proud of all of my twins’ accomplishments and who they have become as young adults.
Like others in the U.S. population, I have lived through divorce. My former husband, the twin’s Dad, is a good man and loving father and I’ll always be sad we were not a match. We were a couple for 22 years.
My curiosities are learning about everything–culture, science, art, business, history, technology, people, government, my United States, and my world. I believe exercise the mind daily. On a humanistic note I try to treat others as I would like to be treated.
When I’m not working and blogging, I enjoy sailing, horseback riding, walking, reading, travel, watching movies, attending live theatre, listening to music, and having coffee and conversation with family and friends, old and new.
Lastly, I am indebted to my good friend, Lorelle, who said, “Griff, you need to start writing again and put it online.” In this our internet global world, “Indeed, Lorelle, indeed!” I dedicate this coffee chat to my family and friends, and all the new friends I look forward to meeting who stumble upon this blog…
Who are we as humans if we don’t have community?
